Surguja police have achieved success in a fraud case. The accused in the case has been arrested from Sarangarh.

 Strict legal action was taken against the accused by the Lundra police station team, who did a great job in the case.

The police seized property worth Rs. 2 lakhs from the accused, including 1 scooter purchased with the money obtained from the fraud, 1 motorcycle used during the crime, and 2 mobile phones.

Brief details of the case:
Yamini Das, a resident of Dadagaon, Lundra police station, reported to the Lundra police station on 01/10/24 that in January 2024, she met Lalit Das Manikpuri, a resident of Sarangarh Raigarh, through social media and started chatting with him on mobile via Facebook. The accused, knowing that they belonged to the same caste, promised to marry her and tricked her into coming to her house in Dadagaon on 14/01/24. He told her family that he worked for Bharat Finance Company Raigarh and agreed to marry her, gaining their trust and taking her to his home in Sarangarh. Later, on 24/03/24, the accused Lalit Das came to Yamini Das’s house in Dadagaon. While living in the village, Lalit Das Manikpuri told the other villagers that he was a BM in Bharat Finance and promised to get them a loan of 20 lakhs for a poultry farm business, of which 7 lakhs would be subsidy/rebate. He gained their trust and said that a commission would have to be paid while getting the quotation for the loan. He cheated Gulshan, Urmila Nai, Mahendra Das, Jageshwar Das out of 30,000-30,000/- rupees each, Shahil Lakra out of 3800/- rupees, and Sulochana Das out of 40000/- rupees, totaling 1,63,800/- rupees. Yamini Das and her family were unaware of this. During the same time, Yamini Das’s sister Priyanka Das had previously applied for CRPF and SSC, which Lalit Das knew about. He promised to get Priyanka Das a job in CRPF as well, saying that senior officials of the department were asking for money. He tricked her into giving him 190,000/- rupees and also took a loan for a 40,000/- rupees Oppo mobile in Priyanka Das’s name. He kept all of Yamini Das’s documents with him, saying that they were required for the job. Meanwhile, he told Yamini Das that her duty would not be suitable and on 19/06/24, he bought a Honda Activa scooter from Jaswani Honda Motorcycle Shop in Lundra, paying 19,000/- rupees as a down payment and financing the remaining 81,500/- rupees in Yamini Das’s name. When Yamini Das and her family found out that Lalit Das had taken money from them and the villagers in the name of getting a loan for the poultry farm business, they realized they had been cheated and fled from their home in Dadagaon with the scooter and Oppo mobile. Lalit Das Manikpuri tricked Yamini Das into marrying him and gained the trust of her family and villagers, cheating them out of a total of 1,63,800/- rupees, 1,90,000/- rupees from Yamini Das’s sister Priyanka Das for a job, a 40,000/- rupees Oppo mobile, and a Honda Activa scooter worth 1,05,000/- rupees, totaling 4,94,300/- rupees. A case was registered against the accused under the relevant sections based on Yamini Das’s report and the investigation is underway.

During the investigation, the police team was making efforts to arrest the accused in the case. The police team was sent to Sarangarh to arrest the accused. With the continuous efforts of the police team, the accused was caught and interrogated. During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the fraud and identified himself as Lalit Das Manikpuri, aged 28, resident of Khairaha, House No. 06, Kotwar Gali, Maulana Azad Ward No. 10, Sarangarh. Upon questioning the accused about the modus operandi of the crime, he admitted to committing the fraud. One scooter, one motorcycle, and two mobile phones worth Rs. 2 lakhs, purchased with the money obtained from the fraud, were seized from the accused. As evidence was found against the accused, he was arrested and sent to judicial remand.

The following police officers from Lundra police station were involved in the entire operation: Assistant Sub-Inspector Shivcharan Sahu, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramkaran Rajwade, Head Constable Hemant Lakra, Head Constable Anil Bada, and Head Constable Deepak Pandey.
