DHILLON

New Delhi, 6 August, 2024: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla paid floral tributes
to Dr. G. S. Dhillon, former Lok Sabha Speaker, in the Central Hall of Samvidhan
Sadan, on his birth anniversary, today.
Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri Harivansh, Members of Parliament, former
Members and other dignitaries also paid tributes to Dr. Dhillon.
Secretary-General, Lok Sabha, Shri Utpal Kumar Singh also paid tributes to Dr.
Dhillon.
Dr. Dhillon served as Speaker, Lok Sabha from 08 August 1969 to 17 March, 1971
and from 22 March, 1971 to 01 December, 1975. He resigned from the Office of
the Speaker on 1 December, 1975 and became the Minister of Shipping and Road
Transport in the Union Cabinet. He was Minister of Agriculture from 12 May,
1986 to 14 February, 1988.
In his long and distinguished public life, Dr. Dhillon served the country in various
capacities, including as Member of the Planning Commission and Indian High
Commissioner to Canada. Dr. Dhillon passed away on 23 March, 1992.
